Turning Vietnamese at Pho Saigon

I have read some facts that Puerto Princesa was once home for refugees who escaped from Vietnam as a result of the Vietnam war. Most of the former refugees have now gone on to greener pastures, and there are few memoirs of them left. If there’s one thing they left behind as legacy, it’s their food.

One of the most popular in Puerto Princesa is the Pho (rice noodles in soup), which they call locally as “Chaolong”. There are still a number of places in the city that serve Chaolong, and your stay in Puerto Princesa wouldn't be complete without trying it out.

Since it was our last night in the city, we decided to try something different for dinner. Good thing, Pho Saigon is just 10-15 minute walk from Go! Hotel. Our tour guide highly recommended this restaurant since it was very near in the place where we stayed and they offer delicious and affordable Vietnamese dishes. I was too excited to try it because I am such a fan of Viet food.
While waiting for our orders to be served, we spent time looking around and taking photos of every corner of the place.

We ordered Pho Bo Kho which costs only 60ph for one good sized bowl, and the fried spring rolls which costs only 55php. The Bahn Mi Bo (French Bread with Beef) I swear! is a must try – I never thought much of French Bread, until I had this.

It's a simple typical restaurant though it has nice service, good food, and affordable price.

  1. our experience was different. very lousy service, staff lacked attention. and why is glass of water needs to be asked to be served, when it should be the standard fare as soon as you're seated? the broth wasn't the authentic crystal clear vietnamese but a sweeter version of a chicken tinola soup? can't they serve a not-so-starving skinny bean sprouts? their binh ma (french baguette) chicken sandwich was switched to chicken salad sandwich instead of shaved grilled chicken like they serve in the U.S. pho houses.
